Wednesday at Newmarket starts with one of two runners for Christopher and Jenny Powell in the shape of Gunmetal. He had a bad draw last time and the race was taken away from him. As long as the ground is not too fast he has a chance. Their two year old filly Queen Of Kalahari (by Lethal Force) runs in the five furlong maiden along with Cherubic (by Dark Angel). She’s been a quick learner and looks to have lots of speed. Cherubic is a bigger, leggier filly and may need further in time.
Away from Newmarket Katheefa runs at Wolverhampton. He has a quick pedigree but we’re starting him off over seven furlongs as things may happen too quickly over six. He went for a racecourse gallop with Dawaaleeb and Afaak, and they both ran well at Newmarket on their debuts.
Hilario starts his season in the six furlong handicap at Newmarket. As a brother to The Tin Man and Deacon Blues he’s entitled to improve with age and his work at home has been good. Coya and Manaahil both ran in the same maiden at Kempton, with Coya having a run since and improving markedly for her first run. Manaahil was second in their debut race and if she’s improved should have a great chance.
Finally Thaaqib runs at Lingfield. He won on the all weather on his final start and has done well over the winter, growing into his big frame.
