Hoping the weather doesn’t scupper too many chances

Like everyone we are battling a bit with the weather and the soft ground, and are hoping it doesn’t rain too much this week.

We only had four runners last week and were particularly pleased with Spoof’s effort at Sandown. He got a bit bogged down in the ground, but is much more professional this year and travelled really well into the race until the weight got to him. Back on faster ground he’ll be  a force to be reckoned with and there is a race for him at Chester. We’re not sure Wafy stayed in the classic trail. His brother Alnashama barely got a mile and we may have been fooled by this horse’s laid back attitude. You’ll almost certainly see him back over a shorter trip.

Definition starts us off this week at Windsor, although we’re hoping all the rain forecast stays away. Again the weather could ruin Jetstream’s chances as Yarmouth has a huge amount of rain forecast. At least the runners at Kempton and Newcastle on Tuesday won’t have to worry about the ground. We took Jallota out at Leicester on Saturday as we didn’t want him to have a hard race first time out on heavy ground, and always had this race at Kempton as a backup. He’s joined by Magillen who has been off since running in the Chesham as a two year old. He has a nasty tendon injury but his owners have nursed him back and he’s been going well since returning to full work. However, it’s very likely he’ll be race rusty and will definitely need it. Dark Freedom gets his last chance to win before going to the sales. Shanghai SIlver runs up at Newcastle and we are expecting him to go well. Tai Sing Yeh is another who’s chances at Brighton could be ruined by all the rain we have around.
