After leaving school he went to work in Australia for Colin & Peter Hayes. On his return to the UK he then spent two years with James Fanshawe as Assistant Trainer. On returning home the rest of his education was spent working under his father before taking over the licence in August 2011.
Less than two years after taking the helm at Faringdon Place Charlie trained his first classic winner when Just The Judge won the Irish 1,000 Guineas. She was swiftly followed by European Champion two year old filly and Breeders Cup winner Chriselliam. Until recently the best horse to have passed through Charlie’s hands so far is the European Champion sprinter Muhaarar, who became the first three year old sprinter ever to win four Group 1 races in one season. However another exciting sprinter Battaash is very much vying for that accolade, and is rated higher the Muhaarar.
Muhaarar became the first and only three year old sprinter ever to win four Group 1 races in one season. Other high class horses Charlie has trained are Battaash (Group 1), Just The Judge (Group 1), Chriselliam (Group 1), Phoenix Of Spain (Group 1), Dutch Connection (Group 2), Magical Memory (Group 2), Cable Bay (Group 2), Ransom Note (Group 2), Cotai Glory (Group 3), Tilsit (Group 3), Mujbar (Group 3), Nebo (Group 3), Hazel Lavery (Group 3), Kiyoshi (Group 3), Coral Mist (Group 3), Strath Burn (Group 3), Jallota (Group 3), Equilateral (Listed), Khaadem (Listed), Flippa The Strippa (Listed) Ibn Malik (Listed), Silver Rainbow (Listed), Sajwah (Listed), Slumber (Listed) and Letsgoroundagain (Listed).
