Kevin Mooney – Assistant Trainer
A top class jump jockey, Kevin retired from race riding in 1991 and in June of that year he took on the role of Assistant Trainer. Under Kevin’s care over 30 Group 1 races have been won, and 125 plus Group races won, plus numerous big handicap winners. He is responsible for the day to day running of the yard and is the main communication link between Charlie and the rest of the staff.
Joe Herbert – Assistant Trainer
Joe worked for us as Pupil Assistant for four years before going on to work in the USA and Australia for various top trainers. Joe returned in the New Year to take up the position of Assistant alongside Kevin, who he works very closely with. One of our best riders Joe has also travelled abroad with top class horses such as Chriselliam, Just The Judge and Dutch Connection.
Steph Potter – Racing Secretary
Steph has worked for the Hills family for over ten years. She is unflappable and a huge help to Charlie when co-ordinating day to day proceedings. Muhaarar’s wins have been a major highlight for Steph. Outside the office she has two ex-racehorses, which keep her very busy.
Debbie Rees-Jones – Racing Secretary
Debbie is one of the originals, having worked for the Hills family for twenty two years. Following the birth of her son Ben in 2009, Debbie now works part-time in the office. There have been many highlights over the years, but the one that Debbie says really stands out was when Haafhd won the 2,000 Guineas. His lad Snowy Outen (who is sadly no longer with us) felt unwell and wasn’t going to go, however after much persuasion he went and the rest as they say is history.
Myra Baker – Book Keeper
Myra has been the Book Keeper at Faringdon Place Stables for 16 years. Known as ‘cash in the attic’, she works upstairs alongside accountant James.
Jamie Insole – Pupil Assistant
Jamie joined us during the winter from Alan King where he had been Pupil Assistant for four years. He has quickly settled into the team and regularly rides work, alongside his other duties.
Geoff Snook – Travelling Head Lad
Geoff was originally an apprentice to Barry and has worked for the family for forty six years. He looked after Rheingold and his all-time favourite horse to travel was Further Flight. He is a very familiar face on racecourses worldwide and has to be one of the best travelling head lads about.
John Burrows – Travelling Head Lad
John has worked for Barry and latterly Charlie for twenty eight years. Until recently John’s highlight during this time, was travelling Red Clubs when he won the Haydock Sprint Cup (John’s favourite track) – although that may have changed having travelled Muhaarar to win at Ascot.
