Goodwood – Tuesday
In an ideal world we could like Goodwood to be Glorious, as the majority of our horses want quick ground. However it doesn’t look that way and it could just go against a few of them.
We start with two yard stalwarts Dutch Connection and Jallota in the Lennox Stakes. Dutch is defending his title from last year when conditions were perfect for him. It’s probably going to be softer than ideal, but he loves Goodwood and we’re hoping the combination of that and it being his ideal trip will help him overcome the going. Jim Crowley knows him well having won the Jersey on him and been second in this race on him as a three year old. Jallota had a bit of a disaster at Chester last time when the horse in the stall next to him didn’t jump out and he half waited for it. He was then too keen so we’re happy to write it off. He hasn’t managed to win at this level, but did a great bit of work on Saturday and won’t mind the underfoot conditions. The wide draw is the only concern.
Makambe has his first run in the six furlong maiden. He’s already been gelded as he wasn’t concentrating 100% at home. The race will do him the world of good, but he’s a good looking horse who will be alright in time.
Two of our quickest horses, A Momentofmadness and Love On The Rocks, go in the five furlong handicap. The ground again probably won’t be ideal for either of them, but the sharp five suits both and they should each be in with a shout.
Away from Goodwood Barrington runs at Yarmouth. We were happy with his Bath run which proved sprinting is his game. The six furlongs should be perfect and he looks well.
